Crazy Sully

How did the Banu Auction come to be called Crazy Sully?

The Banu don’t know, nor do they care. They only know that the name benefits them, so they keep it.

As mentioned elsewhere, humans first encountered the Banu Auction Souli soon after First Contact with the Banu. While the image the Banu use for their marketing in the UEE would seem to indicate that “Crazy” Sully is a single Banu, the name actually refers to the entire Souli.

Crazy Sully is only used in UEE space, because it was humans who first started using it.

The first humans who encountered what they thought were ridiculously low auction prices, came back to the UNE with stories of “this crazy Banu Souli” that was auctioning off anything and everything for next to nothing. After all Hryleena, the actual name of the Souli doesn’t roll off human tongues.

Of course, these first human bidders failed to realize that the Banu do nothing unless they can make a profit at it. The Banu are honest traders, and all the rules are there to be read, if you take the time. It didn’t take long for crazy Banu Souli to be shortened to Crazy Souli, and humans being, well…human, a mispronunciation here, a bad comm signal there, and it wasn’t long before Souli was being pronounced Sully.

By 2442, all of human space was referring to the Banu Souli, as Crazy Sully. The Banu at first, were confused, when they were asked by humans, where they could find the Crazy Sully, but it didn’t take long for the Essosouli of Hryleena, to recognize marketing gold, when he heard it. Within the year, Hryleena Souli was being marketed in UNE space as “Crazy Sully”.

Today, most Banu pronounce it Crazy Souli, as the Banu have as much trouble pronouncing human words, as humans have with Banu. They don’t have any idea where it came from, or how it started, as is the Banu way. They do however understand very well, that humans know the Souli as Crazy Sully, and that it brings vast amounts of human credits, to the Protectorate, looking for a good deal.

For the Hryleena Souli, that is just good business.
