For centuries, pilots have painted pretty women on the side of their craft for good luck in battle. The Buccaneer Owner’s Club took this design straight from the side of the fighter flown by the Dead Pirate Roberts.
Known as the Dead Pirate, because he survived 13 fighters being shot out from around him. The UPE Navy pilots decided that only a man who was already dead, could come back from so many unsurvivable encounters, unscathed.
As far as records show, he was never caught, nor killed.
No one knows who the image is of. Some claim it was his wife, others say it was an imagining of what his daughter would grow up to be. No matter the origin, this image was painted on every ship the Dead Pirate flew.
